Bridgeville planners review Active Transportation projects, PennDOT crosswalk upgrades

The Bridgeville Planning Commission heard updates on multiple pedestrian and street-safety projects that staff said are advancing this year.
Joe, Staff member, told the commission that the Bank Street bump-outs are linked to a PennDOT project to replace ADA sidewalk ramps and that work is expected to start soon. "They'll be starting on that very soon," Joe said, adding that the intersections at Winfield and Greg should be done as part of that work.
Commissioners discussed mid-block crossings the Planning Commission previously flagged. Staff reported PennDOT—had identified three intersections for safety upgrades based on pedestrian-accident data and a grant that will fund signage and thermoplastic markings recommended in the Active Transportation study. "PennDOT came back with recommendations for the Bank Street extension and Washington Avenue," Joe said; "they had grant money to upgrade some crosswalks where there was pedestrian accidents."
The commission also noted that the Sher Street roundabout is under formal traffic study. Staff said the borough has engaged Trans Associates and is coordinating with Upper St. Clair to keep the studies consistent across municipal lines.
Finally, the commission was told the Greg Avenue steps project will go out to bid soon, with engineering revisions incorporating input provided at earlier meetings.
Why it matters: Commissioners said the cluster of projects—ADA ramps, crosswalk upgrades and the roundabout study—represents a concentrated investment in pedestrian safety and walkability for the downtown and central corridors. Several members urged continued quarterly updates to keep the projects aligned and to use grant opportunities where possible.
What comes next: Staff said PennDOT's schedule and grant awards will determine exact construction windows; the commission recommended keeping the Active Transportation tracking spreadsheet current and reviewing progress at least quarterly.
