Ridgetop terminates park mowing contract, will staff city mowing and seek commercial mower bids

The Ridgetop Board of Aldermen voted on July 15 to terminate the city’s contracted lawn service and to advertise for bids to buy a commercial lawnmower, after elected officials said the contractor repeatedly failed to mow by contract. Vice Mayor Gilmore told the board the contractor "has not mowed by contract" and the city’s services with that vendor have been terminated; he moved to advertise for a commercial mower and the motion passed unanimously.
City staff will take over mowing responsibilities at Pioneer Park and Ridgetop Station Park going forward, Mayor Tim Shaw said. Gilmore said the city plans to grind eight large stumps at Ridgetop Station Park on the coming Friday, and that the city is soliciting bids to replace soffit and siding on the restroom building there.
The board’s attorney, Russell Freeman, recommended preparing an official termination letter for the contract to document the city’s administrative action. The board approved the motion to seek bids for a commercial lawnmower after discussing operational continuity and equipment needs.
Vice Mayor Gilmore also reminded the board that Smoke on the Ridge is scheduled for Sept. 27, 2025, and that volunteers and vendors are still needed for the event. The board did not take further action on the event during the meeting.
The motion to advertise for the lawnmower was made by Vice Mayor Gilmore, seconded by Alderman Senft and carried on a unanimous vote. The city did not specify a target budget for the mower in the meeting; procurement details will be set during the bid process.
