Ridgetop board keeps tax rate, adopts updated building and fire codes

On Sept. 16 the Ridgetop Mayor and Board of Aldermen voted unanimously to set the 2025-26 property tax rate at the certified level and to adopt the 2024 International Building Code package and the 2024 International Fire Code.
The Ridgetop Mayor and Board of Aldermen on Sept. 16 approved three ordinances that set the city's property tax rate and update local building and fire safety codes. Alderman Senft moved the measures and they passed on unanimous votes.
The first ordinance, 2025-107, sets the property tax rate for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2025, at the certified rate. The measure was presented in a public hearing and approved after a motion by Alderman Senft and a second from Vice Mayor Gilmore.
The board also approved Ordinance 2025-108 to amend the Ridgetop Municipal Code (Title 12) to adopt the 2024 edition of the International Building Codes, the 2018 International Energy Conservation Code and the 2024 National Electrical Code. The change updates the city's building, energy and electrical standards to the newer national model codes.
A separate ordinance, 2025-109, adopts the 2024 International Fire Code into Title 7 (Fire Protection and Fireworks). Alderman Senft moved that ordinance and Alderman Martin seconded; members voted unanimously to adopt it.
Why it matters: Adopting recent model building and fire codes updates technical standards for construction, mechanical and electrical work and can affect permitting, inspections and contractor requirements in Ridgetop. Setting the tax rate at the certified level preserves the rate calculated under state rules for the coming fiscal year.
Next steps: The ordinances were adopted during the meeting and will be incorporated into the municipal code as stated; the minutes record unanimous votes.
