At its July 6 organizational meeting, the Harrison County Board of Education elected Frankie Devano as board president and reappointed Mary Frances Smith as vice president.
The action began when a committee member said, "I'd nominate Frankie Devano," and the nomination was seconded; the board then voted in favor and the presiding officer acknowledged, "Mister Devonna, you're now the president of the Harrison County Board of Education." After taking the gavel, the president invited the next item.
The board also moved to keep Mary Frances Smith as vice president. The president nominated Smith to continue in the role, a motion was seconded and the board approved the nomination with members responding "aye."
Members next appointed a representative to the United Technical Center board. The president nominated a board member to continue serving on that body; the motion was moved and seconded, the board voted in favor and members congratulated Mr. Oak on his appointment.
During board member comments several members referred to past service on a library committee and noted the item may be revisited at a future meeting, but no committee was reconstituted at this session.
The meeting ended after a motion to adjourn passed. The presiding officer announced the adjournment vote as 4 to 1 and declared the meeting adjourned.
