Reinbeck Mayor Jamie Eiffler opened a special city council meeting and the proposed property tax levy hearing at 5:00 p.m. on April 6, 2026. Julie Wilkerson, the city administrator, told the council the current certified levy rate is $12.10487 and that, if the budget were unchanged, the rate would be $11.87046. She said increases in employee wages and benefits and in insurance would instead yield a proposed levy rate of $12.10245 for the next fiscal year.
Wilkerson said those cost increases were the primary drivers of the change in the proposed levy rate. "The current year certified property taxes levy rate is $12.10487 and that if the budget was kept the same for the next fiscal year the levy rate would be $11.87046. But, due to employee wages and benefit increases as well as insurance increases, the levy rate will be $12.10245," Wilkerson said.
The hearing drew no written or oral comments for or against the proposal. Council Member Johnson moved to close the hearing; Council Member Trepp seconded. The motion passed with four ayes and the hearing was closed at 5:05 p.m. (Council Member Pease was recorded as absent.)
After the hearing was closed, Council Member Bueghly moved to adjourn the special meeting; Council Member Wambold seconded. The motion carried 4-0 and the meeting adjourned at 5:05 p.m.
The minutes of the special property tax levy meeting note that they are to be approved by the council at the next regular city council meeting.
