Cranford Township Committee workshop: minutes approved, closed sessions held, task force formed

At its Jan. 20 workshop the Cranford Township Committee handled a set of routine and procedural items, approved closed-session minutes, and launched a small task force to study outdoor space options around the Centennial Avenue pool.
Commissioner Gina Black moved and Commissioner Terrence Curran seconded the adoption of the closed-session meeting minutes for Dec. 1 and Dec. 2, 2025; Mayor Kathleen Miller Prunty, Deputy Mayor Paul A. Gallo, Commissioner Black and Commissioner Curran voted to approve the minutes. The Committee also adopted Resolution No. 2026-84.1—on motion of Deputy Mayor Gallo, seconded by Commissioner Curran—to move into closed session to discuss legal updates; collective bargaining; Department of Public Works GPS procurement; South Avenue and Chestnut Street express sewer matters; personnel items including police civilian personnel; and closed-session minute review. Recorded roll-call votes were noted in the minutes.
Business Administrator/CFO Lavona Patterson reviewed the Township’s Annual Statement of Taxes and reported a tax collection rate of "99.47 per cent." The Committee agreed to pull proposed Resolution No. 2026-102 (amending Township Committee bylaws) from the Official Meeting agenda to allow for suggested edits.
Mayor Kathleen Miller Prunty told members she would form a Centennial Avenue Outdoor Space Task Force to explore options for the area outside the Centennial Avenue pool if the pool remains closed; Commissioners discussed appointments and emphasized resident involvement. Commissioner Terrence Curran reported the Board of Education had received a donation designated for wheelchair access at Memorial Field; the Committee expressed consensus to support that use of funds. Business Administrator Patterson noted Birchwood Avenue development PILOT monies were remitted to the Board of Education in December 2025.
The Committee adjourned the workshop at 11:09 p.m. No legislative ordinances were adopted at the workshop; several matters were tabled or set for further community engagement.
