Cranford advisory board lays out Summer 2026 pool priorities, emphasizes ADA and safety fixes

The materials specifically list adding real lane guides for lap swimming and four short-course lap lanes, extending the baby pool fence to separate a playground area, new slides, and expanding programming and events.
Infrastructure and compliance concerns are a major focus: the workshop materials call for an ADA compliance review ("if not already"), a sewer scope to assess plumbing infrastructure, and plumbing fixture replacements (new urinals/toilets). The advisory board repeatedly emphasized improving existing concrete and repairing the parking lot as priorities tied to safety and access.
On longer-term goals, the board listed making the facility capable of hosting swim meets (including removable header/bridge and starting blocks) and assessing revenue potential from hosting meets, rehabbing tennis and basketball courts, adding pickleball courts, and expanding full-service food options such as food trucks. These items were presented as aspirational projects that would require additional study, design and funding.
Next steps recorded in the workshop materials name the Recreation Department as working with contractors on fencing, concrete, electrical and general construction. The Township Committee will review and prioritize projects alongside the Recreation Department, considering finances. The advisory board plans to meet again in late February to narrow priorities and support preparations for opening the pool for the 2026 season.
