Resident opposition rises to proposed Chester Lang Place bicycle lanes

Residents pressed the Township Committee on proposed bicycle lanes for Chester Lang Place at the Jan. 20 workshop, saying the plan would remove parking in front of homes and increase enforcement demands.

Brian Hueter of 19 Chester Lang Place said he opposed proposed Ordinance No. 2026-01 to add bicycle lanes, arguing the change would “place a burden on both the Police Department and traffic enforcement” and prevent visitors and residents from parking in front of homes. Belinda Prince, who lives on Chester Lang Place, told the Committee she did not recall the proposal being discussed previously and asked for clarification on crosswalk placement and parking plans.

Township Consulting Engineer Kevin Boyer told the Committee the County planned to install bicycle lanes on the street; Police Chief Matthew Nazzaro answered questions from residents about pedestrian crossings and enforcement. Mayor Kathleen Miller Prunty noted the Complete Streets Advisory Board’s advocacy for bicycle lanes, and Commissioner Terrence Curran said some township bicyclists supported the changes.

Committee members and residents discussed alternatives including different striping alignments, possible narrowing of travel lanes, and holding a neighborhood meeting to consider community concerns and contractor placement of striping. No formal action was taken at the workshop; the Mayor directed further local discussion before the ordinance advance.

The topic will return for further local outreach and any ordinance introduction would be considered at a future official meeting after neighborhood input is collected.
