Union Township board approves staffing slate, extracurricular stipends and salary adjustments ahead of school year

The Union Township Board of Education approved a comprehensive personnel package and extracurricular stipend list at its Aug. 18 meeting, moving to finalize staffing and after‑school assignments before the start of the 2025–26 school year.
Board President Cortney Dominianni called the meeting to order at 6:31 p.m., and the board approved consent Personnel items P1–P23 on a motion by Lou Palma and seconded by Dominianni. The slate accepted resignations, amended start dates, and filled a range of vacancies with temporary and permanent appointments. Among the actions the board approved were the appointment of Maryann Huzar as a leave‑replacement physical therapist at $150/hour (Aug. 25–Nov. 26); Alexis DiSora as an elementary teacher (Step 1 BA, $56,275); and Mindy Bennington as LDTC (Step 14 MA+30, $92,475).
The board also approved temporary placements and pay rules: Michaela Wilcox as a preschool leave‑replacement at $200/day (then Step 1/BA after 60 days); Kimberly Sautter as a part‑time paraprofessional (FTE .50) pending criminal history review; and a roster of permanent substitutes at $150/day. The minutes list a large substitute pool with names and rates for teacher, nurse and secretary positions.
In addition, the board ratified a broad set of extra‑curricular stipends for coaches, advisors and supervisors across grades K–8. Notable stipend items included girls’ and boys’ cross‑country and soccer coaches ($2,656 each), girls’ basketball ($3,454), drama club ($2,301), student council ($2,301), and a district test coordinator ($2,301). The minutes list each position and stipend amount as approved under Personnel item P20.
During public comment, an unnamed community member raised concerns about the district preschool waitlist; the board did not take a formal vote tied specifically to that comment but later approved a preschool playground addition using Preschool Expansion Aid funds (see finance). The personnel section also included administrative assignments: the board amended the start date for Interim Middle School Principal Bevin Nittel and approved per‑diem professional development time for Elementary Principal Steven Fiedeldey.
The meeting record also shows two $10,000 salary adjustments (identified only by employee number) approved effective Sept. 1, 2025. The minutes list these as Other Business items OB3 and OB4; the individuals are referred to by employee ID only.
The board carried the motions by recorded roll call and adjourned executive session later in the evening. The personnel approvals were part of a combined consent agenda that passed as presented.
