Covington administrator updates council on school-zone work, grant application and community events; police say tornado sirens arriving soon

He told council the June planning meeting will include the first update on the trail plan and a zoning code rewrite.
On operational matters Hodges reminded residents that garage sales begin on Friday, June 5; extra bagged trash will be collected the following week at no charge, while large items that cannot be bagged will still incur a fee. Hydrant flushing is scheduled to begin June 15. Hodges also reminded the council that the next regular meeting will be on June 22 instead of June 15 and that village offices will be closed June 19 in observance of Juneteenth.
Acting Police Chief Aaron Zuhl told council that "the tornado sirens should be delivered in the next ten days and installed by the end of the month," and said the department is working to complete Cradlepoint installations in patrol cruisers. Zuhl also referenced 'good choice' award tickets that officers are distributing; the minutes say the tickets were donated by a citizen.
Councilmember Amy Welborn highlighted the Miami County Foundation as a resource that offers two annual grant cycles for local nonprofits. Councilmember Martin Leistner reported more than 20 vendors at the Farmers Market, praised the success of a 3v3 basketball tournament and thanked food-truck vendors who remained after the market to serve attendees.
