Council approves water-treatment change orders to extend timeline and adjust scope; equipment deliveries are imminent

Brooklawn Borough Council approved two change orders to the borough’s GAC filtration/water treatment contract that extend the schedule and adjust the contract for unforeseen field conditions.

The borough engineer reported the valves and other equipment have been delivered and the gas treatment system and chlorine contact tank were expected soon; because the equipment will arrive after the original completion window, change order number one extends the contract through February to allow installation and commissioning. Change order number two adjusts as-built quantities to account for unforeseen site conditions discovered during excavation and for additional motorized valves needed for the backwash system; the engineer said the adjustments so far represent less than 3% of the contract value.

Council considered the change orders as part of the consent resolutions and approved them as a block during year-end business. The engineer noted the contract amount remains approximately $1.58 million after the first order and increases to about $1.63 million after the second (increase of roughly $52,7xx as recorded in the meeting). Council members asked about site security, insulation for parts awaiting hookup, and weather impacts; staff said on-site measures and office oversight will be used during deliveries and installation.

What happens next: Contractors will complete deliveries and work through winter weather; council directed staff to monitor installation and bring any further cost or schedule impacts back to council. Any additional contract amendments or claims must be approved in subsequent council action.
