Commission backs pollinator garden project, asks council budget committee to consider funding

Staff explained a concept for a roughly 4‑by‑25‑foot pollinator/butterfly garden with native plantings and presented a sample quote from a local nursery. Commissioners discussed logistics including site prep, volunteer planting, and options for watering during the first establishment year (volunteer watering, a rented water buffalo, or a permanent connection). "If we can get this put into the budget then we'll figure out how we're going to start to communicate it out in the community," staff said.
A motion was made and seconded for the commission to send a letter to the Borough Council budget committee asking that the pollinator garden project be included in next year’s Parks capital budget; the motion carried on a voice vote.
Next steps: staff will collect final quotes and produce a letter to the council budget committee to request inclusion in the next fiscal year's Parks capital allocation.
