The Teaneck Board of Education convened a retreat on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2026, at Thomas Jefferson Middle School Library. Board President Nadia Hosein called the meeting to order at 12:08 p.m. and confirmed the meeting notice had been filed with local newspapers, the municipal clerk and the district website.
Board members introduced themselves and described why they serve on the board. Committee chairs presented updates: Nadia Hosein (Community Relations), Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum (Curriculum), Dr. David Gruber (Finance/Facilities), Jonathan Rodriguez (Personnel), Clara Williams (Policy), and Jennifer Levy (Interim Chair, Special Education). The agenda included progress monitoring of 2025–26 board goals and planning for 2026–27.
The public comment period recorded no speakers. The retreat included a facilitated program, 'Healing—Courageous Conversations,' led by Dr. John Woodall of Healing the Heart of America; the session focused on trauma-informed approaches to identity and community resilience rather than formal district action.
A motion to adjourn was made by Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum and seconded by President Nadia Hosein; the board closed the retreat at 6:00 p.m. Roll-call voting recorded unanimous approval of the adjournment motion by the members listed on the roll call.
