The Teaneck Board of Education voted Dec. 10 to take initial steps toward multi‑school facilities projects and to seek state Debt Service Aid.
In separate but related resolutions, the board approved Educational Specifications and Schematic Plans for interior renovations at Bryant Elementary, Benjamin Franklin Middle, Thomas Jefferson Middle School and Teaneck High School and for broader facility upgrades across several elementary and middle schools. Both resolutions authorize the submission of required documentation to the Bergen County Superintendent of Schools and the New Jersey Department of Education and direct administrators, bond counsel and the district architect to take actions necessary to implement the projects and to amend the district’s Long‑Range Facilities Plan.
The board designated both projects as seeking "Debt Service Aid," signaling an intent to request state assistance for construction-related debt service. The resolutions instruct district staff to prepare and submit required materials under N.J. Administrative Code Section 6A:26‑3 and to proceed immediately.
The actions, moved by the administration and approved by roll-call vote, do not award construction contracts or commit final local funding; they authorize the planning steps and state submissions required before design and bidding. The board noted that subsequent approvals will be required as the projects advance and state approvals or funding determinations are received.
