Marlboro County schools honor Teaching Fellows, perfect scorers and championship teams

The Marlboro County School District used its meeting to recognize student achievements across academics, athletics and community safety.
Penny Oxendine, instructor for the Teacher Cadet Program at Marlboro County High School, presented two Teaching Fellows scholarship recipients, naming Anari Moore and Jillian Bethea; presenters said the scholarship provides $24,000 over four years for tuition and room and board. District staff also read congratulatory letters from State Superintendent Ellen Weaver to students who achieved perfect scores on the 2025 SC Ready assessments, noting the results place those students among the top 1% statewide. Recognized students included Jayshawn Bethea (Bennettsville Primary), Alikay Galloway (McColl Elementary Middle School) and Rowan Ferris (science achievement).
The board also honored Blenheim Middle School’s boys and girls basketball teams for championship seasons; coaches named during the recognition included Coach Anthony Edwards, Coach Henry Adams and Coach Rashida Patterson. Tiffany Plant, president of the Pilot Club of Bennettsville, announced winners of a helmet-coloring contest for pre-K through third grade and invited students forward for recognition and photos.
The recognitions were ceremonial; presenters invited families and teachers to join students for photographs and applause.
