Municipal finance staff told the Bound Brook Borough Council that the town has begun preparing for the 2025 budget.
A borough staff member said departmental requests have been sent and are due Sept. 30, and that budget hearings could begin in November to give the council more time to consider requests. "To date, our 2024 budget is at 79% expended," the staff member said, adding that this level of spending is expected at this point in the year but that a few line items — notably IT, to cover new multifactor authentication and other Joint Insurance Fund security requirements — may need attention.
Staff also said they are processing firefighter stipends and working on reimbursements, and are converting as many vendors as possible to ACH payments to save time and reduce transaction costs. The borough has scheduled a tax sale for Nov. 22 to recover prior-year delinquent taxes and municipal charges; parcel-level information was not yet available.
Council members and staff said they will monitor police salary and wage lines for potential shortfalls and will bring requests into the 2025 budget cycle as needed. The council did not take any final budget votes at the meeting; members said they expect further hearings in the fall once departmental submissions are in.
