Atlantic Beach council approves contract hires, appoints municipal judge and advances traffic ordinance

The Atlantic Beach Town Council on Aug. 4 approved a slate of routine but consequential items intended to shore up municipal operations and regional representation.
Council authorized Town Manager Adrian Jones to enter a contract with Diamond Shores to update the town’s comprehensive plan and land-management ordinance for 30th Avenue and approved re-hiring Kimberly Vincent LLC to provide interim accounting services aimed at bringing the town’s books up to date. The council also authorized the Town Manager to secure outside legal services.
Councilmembers voted unanimously to appoint attorney Jerry Finney as the town’s municipal judge after the prior judge resigned. The council approved Ordinance 10-2025 (Chapter 8), a first reading to adopt state traffic laws and update local rules covering golf carts and low-speed vehicles; members discussed golf-cart hours and agreed to post the draft ordinances online for public review before second reading. The council also approved a resolution designating Mayor Pro Tem John David as the town’s representative to the Grand Strand Area Transportation (GSAT) Policy Committee, with Town Manager Adrian Jones as alternate.
All actions on consent and new-business items were carried by roll call. Council members recording “yes” in roll calls included Councilman Edward Campbell, Councilwoman Carla Taylor, Councilwoman Jacqueline Gore and Mayor Pro Tem John David.
The meeting adjourned to a memorial for Wilbert “Will” Chauncey Thomas Jr. following the business session.
