Interim Town Manager Linda Cheatham reported to the Town of Atlantic Beach council on May 5 that a proposed change from fluorescent to LED lighting in town facilities would "save the town over $25,000 dollars over a period of five years." She said the roofing work on the community center is complete and that vendor contracts and security arrangements for upcoming events are in place.
Cheatham said both EV charging stations — including the unit outside the community center on 30th Avenue — are operational but noted the Beautification Committee had raised concerns about their appearance; she said volunteers will be asked to paint the stations. She announced a community street-mural painting May 14 at 32nd Avenue and Seaview tied to the town's three-year Thriving Communities partnership and said the town has been nominated by Horry County for a historic-preservation award, with a ceremony scheduled for May 19 at 5:30 p.m.
Cheatham also outlined the town's near-term administrative schedule: the first reading of the FY 2025/26 budget and receipt of the prior fiscal year's audit report are expected June 2, with budget adoption targeted for June 16. She reiterated the town seeks volunteers for Bike Fest and invited feedback on the new town website and social media rollout.
What happens next: Staff will proceed with the LED retrofit planning, prepare outreach for the mural event, post EV-charger beautification volunteer opportunities and distribute the budget/audit materials and timeline ahead of public hearings.
