Staff described three coordinated structures: a District Emergency Response Team (DIRT) that includes the chief of police and town administration and meets monthly to plan operations; a Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management (BAM) team of about 20 staff members that runs topic‑specific trainings and tabletop exercises; and an Emergency Operations Plan (SEOP) that staff are developing as a nonpublic manual to guide trainings and operations.
Staff said the DIRT meetings have been useful for operational coordination and scenario work with local law enforcement, and that the BAM team has expanded regionally — recent training included an FBI special agent who led a case‑study discussion on targeted violence. Committee members asked whether students understand that adults and teams are working on safety; staff said some students are aware but pledged follow‑up communication and suggested using advisory models or assemblies to increase awareness without disclosing sensitive operational details.
Members also discussed the role of the SRO in threat assessment; staff said the SRO attends BAM meetings periodically and is invited to DIRT sessions as appropriate. The committee heard that certain details of the SEOP will remain confidential for safety reasons, but that highlights and training components will be shared with staff and that additional professional development is planned.
The briefing included a request for continued partnership with the police department and the town administrator to improve campus signage and enforcement of closed‑campus rules during school hours, and to plan cross‑jurisdictional training that could allow officers from nearby towns to assist in drills and responses.
