Township to cover initial $10,000 for engineering as county explores Locke Lake outflow fixes

Commissioner Vetsch and County Engineer Chad Hausmann told the Silver Creek Township Board on Aug. 6 that the county can begin a process that may let the township use the Town Bridge account to address the water outflow from Locke Lake.
Hausmann said the township would be responsible for the first $10,000 in engineering costs and that the board’s first step should be to hire a consultant to perform a hydraulic analysis. If the analysis triggers a Town Bridge project, the engineering expense could be credited toward that first $10,000; if not, the engineering cost would remain the township’s responsibility. The county representatives said county funds, if available and approved, would likely not be accessible for at least one to two years and that state approvals could push actual funding or construction out three to five years.
Resident Johan Massmann urged the board to pursue the matter aggressively to achieve better water control at Locke Lake. Vice Chairman Mike Helman confirmed the township will seek more information about how long an engineering study remains valid.
The discussion produced no formal vote beyond agenda approval; the board’s next steps will be to evaluate consultant proposals and follow any county guidance on accessing the Town Bridge account.
