Board to review superintendent evaluation templates, uses executive session for personnel discussion

Board members spent part of the June 25 retreat debating the method for evaluating the superintendent. The board has used the New Jersey School Boards Association (NJSBA) anonymous online tool the past two years, but several members criticized it as lengthy and technically difficult and favored a simpler in-district narrative or ratings tool.

"The school board's tool is completely anonymous... I found both years with the school board's tool ... there were technical issues and because there are so many points it takes hours," one board member said, urging a district-developed alternative. Several members agreed to collect templates from other districts so Dr. Glazer can be prepared before the September evaluation cycle.

The board chair said the completed evaluation, regardless of format, will remain confidential and be filed with the county when executed.

Later in the meeting the board moved into a closed executive session "to discuss specific prospective or current employees," referencing the Open Public Meetings Act (NJSA 10:4-12). The resolution stated the minutes of the closed session will be made public when confidentiality is no longer required and that "No action will be taken." The board convened in closed session and later returned to open session with no public action reported.

The board also approved a motion to adjourn after the closed-session return; the meeting ended following the roll call back to open session.
