Denton trustees approve tree removal, appoint street superintendent and approve claims

The Denton Board of Trustees on May 4 approved several operational items, including removal of a tree at the corner of Cass Avenue and West Denton Road, the appointment of a street superintendent for the remainder of 2026, and payment of municipal claims.
Chair Joe Hobelman convened the meeting at 6:33 p.m. and the board first approved the April 6, 2026 meeting minutes. The board then carried Resolution 16-5-1 concerning Disaster Relief NRD.
On a roll-call vote, the board approved a $1,800 contract with Top Down Tree Service to remove a tree at Cass Ave and W Denton Rd. Trustee Ryan Osborn moved the tree-removal motion; Trustee Trent Wheatley seconded. The recorded vote was Aye: Ryan Osborn, Trent Wheatley, Chair Joe Hobelman and Trustee Doug Rosekrans; Nay: Trustee Amanda Fangmeier. The motion carried.
Trustee Ryan Osborn moved to appoint Hunter Moural of Olsson (License S-1838) as the village street superintendent for the remainder of 2026; Trustee Trent Wheatley seconded and the motion carried. The appointment notes Moural’s affiliation with Olsson as listed in the meeting minutes.
The board approved Claims List A totaling $73,692.89 and Claims List B totaling $8,877.85, authorized Keno-related disbursements listed in the minutes and approved a $30,000 transfer from the Keno Checking account to the General Fund. The minutes list individual vendor payments (see meeting claims detail) including an annual insurance premium, lagoon circulator final payment, meter software support and other municipal operating costs.
During public comment, resident Bill Edwards raised concerns about the community center’s exterior condition—reporting a mudhole at the entrance, a remaining stump and volunteer trees in landscaping. Trustee Amanda Fangmeier said she has volunteered pulling weeds; Trustee Doug Rosekrans requested Edwards provide a written list of concerns for further review.
Village Clerk/Treasurer Charlotte TeBrink certified the minutes at adjournment. The meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
Next steps noted in the minutes: staff follow-up on Edwards’s written list of facility concerns, clerk outreach to a property owner about junk cars at the Austin car wash location, and continued discussion of street paving and striping bids at a May 21 special meeting.
