The Town of Cromwell Planning & Zoning Commission on June 16 approved a special permit to allow alcohol service at the hotel at 76 Berlin Road, granting MNM Hotels, Cromwell, LLC the right to serve alcoholic beverages under the town's Highway Business (HB) zoning rules.
Applicant Monita Patel told commissioners the new owner took over the hotel about a month earlier and applied for a liquor license under the new ownership. Patel said the bar is expected to operate generally from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., with earlier closing times on slower nights.
Director of Planning & Development Andrew J. Armstrong told the commission that the application meets the HB zoning regulations and that staff had no outstanding concerns. Armstrong confirmed that the prior owners had held a Special Permit for alcohol service at the same location.
The public hearing for Application #26-18 was opened on a motion by Vice-Chair Michael Cannata, seconded by Commissioner Andrew Holt. After hearing from the applicant and staff, Commissioners voted to close the hearing and then voted unanimously to approve the special permit. The motion to approve was made by Michael Cannata and seconded by Vincenzo Marfella; the vote was recorded as all in favor.
Armstrong instructed Patel that the office will send a letter and a form that must be filed with the Town Clerk for the Special Permit to become effective. Patel asked whether she could call Armstrong to arrange picking up the paperwork earlier.
The commission's action allows the hotel to apply for any necessary liquor-license paperwork with town staff and to proceed with the license process following the required filing with the Town Clerk.
