At its Aug. 27 meeting the Closter Board of Education approved a slate of personnel motions covering paraprofessional appointments, substitute certifications and a staff leave.
Personnel Chair Ms. Salamea‑Cross moved the slate of motions that included the appointment of Tenakill School paraprofessionals starting Sept. 1, 2024, pending background checks; the names approved included Charles Connell, Bruce Goldsmith, Sophia Lanava, Hayden Moses and others as listed in the meeting appendix. The board also approved the district’s substitute teacher/paraprofessional/custodian lists and Ramapo College clinical intern placements.
The board approved a leave of absence for Ellen Monaghan, Tenakill’s Basic Skills teacher, effective Sept. 20 with an anticipated return on Nov. 4. In addition, trustees approved CPI training on Aug. 28 for administrators and paraprofessionals and formalized loop‑duty and Harrington Avenue supervision assignments at the approved stipend rates.
All personnel motions were approved by roll call. In response to a question about specific staffing needs the superintendent explained the decision to contract BCBA services and to add Schedule F positions was driven by student needs and program support rather than budget expansion.
What to watch next: The Business Office will post finalized staffing assignments and any adjustments following completion of required background checks and pre‑employment requirements.
