The Closter Board of Education on Aug. 5, 2024, approved the appointment of Joseph Calabria as a full-time, tenure-track Gifted & Talented and Technology teacher at Tenakill Middle School for the 2024–25 school year.
Board President Ms. Salamea-Cross called the special meeting to order at 4:33 p.m. at Tenakill Middle School and read the New Jersey Open Public Meetings Act statement. Under the Personnel and Management Committee agenda, Ms. Wagner moved and Ms. Micera seconded Motion A to hire Calabria at a pro-rated salary of $82,377 (MA, Step 8), with an estimated start date of Oct. 4, 2024, or sooner pending release from his current district and successful completion of a criminal background check. The motion passed by roll call vote, with six yeas and no nays.
Mr. McHale thanked the trustees for attending the special meeting, which the minutes say allowed Calabria’s current district to receive required notice. The board opened the meeting for public comment under bylaw 0167 but received no public input; the meeting adjourned at 4:38 p.m.
