Owens Cross Roads recognizes Jordan Townsen as 2025 firefighter of the year

The Owens Cross Roads City Council honored firefighter Jordan Townsen as the city’s 2025 firefighter of the year during the Jan. 27, 2025 meeting, citing his extended on-scene presence during a severe house fire and extensive service during recent cold-weather responses.
Deputy Chief Whitman and other fire department leaders described a house fire early in the department’s response period when Townsen stayed at the scene for more than three hours while others went to work, and noted Townsen logged roughly 120 hours on duty during the recent inclement-weather period. The department said a plaque will be presented at a later date; a certificate was given at the meeting because the plaque could not be delivered due to weather.
Fire officials also recognized volunteer John Hotskins for staying at the station for lengthy shifts during the same period. The council and audience applauded both volunteers. No formal action or funding decision was associated with the recognition; it was presented as an honorific acknowledgment of service.
