Teaneck board approves additional special-education classrooms and community-based instruction sites

The Teaneck Board of Education approved, effective immediately, the addition of one Language Learning Disabled classroom at Teaneck High School and one Multiply Disabled classroom at Thomas Jefferson Middle School to expand services for students with disabilities. The approvals were presented as recommendations of the Superintendent and framed as steps to maintain compliance with IDEA and ensure students receive individualized instruction and supports.
The board also approved Community Based Instruction and Transition class locations listed in the packet, including Teaneck Public Library (840 Teaneck Road), Teaneck Creek Conservancy (20 Puffin Way), Bergen Community College (Paramus), Bergen County Technical School (Hackensack), Schnitzel+ (1450 Queen Anne Rd., Teaneck) and Veggie Haven (473 Cedar Lane, Teaneck). The packet describes CBI as courses that practice life skills through structured community outings (public transportation, job-site experience and following directions).
Board members also approved a roster of volunteers for the 2025–2026 school year pending criminal history review, and approved related field trips and staffing for district-funded and parent-funded trips linked to Special Education and general curriculum activities.
