Reinbeck council holds public hearing, gives first reading to water and trash rate increases

The Reinbeck City Council on May 4 held a public hearing on two ordinances to revise local utility service rates and unanimously gave both ordinances their first reading.
Mayor Jamie Eiffler opened the hearing at 6:03 p.m. on Ordinance #2026-06OR, which repeals the city’s current water service rates (Section 92.02), and Ordinance #2026-07OR, which repeals the current garbage and recycling services (Section 106.08) to adopt new rates. City staff and council noted that water rates will increase by 2 percent and garbage and recycling charges will rise by $0.50 each.
Hearing no oral or written comments, Councilmember Wambold moved to close the hearing; Councilmember Bueghly seconded the motion and the council voted unanimously to close. Councilmember Johnson then moved that both ordinances be given their first consideration and that the first reading be adopted; Councilmember Trepp seconded. A roll-call vote recorded Wambold, Pease, Johnson, Trepp and Bueghly voting aye on the first reading.
The council set the second reading for June 1, 2026. No public comment was recorded at the hearing. The action advances the ordinances through the city’s standard ordinance-adoption process; the rates do not take effect until final adoption and any required effective date specified in the ordinances.
