The Danbury Board of Awards on July 17 added an emergency item to authorize pavement milling at 279 Main Street after a city crew repaired a leaking water service on a recently paved section of Main Street.
David Day, superintendent of public utilities (introduced at meeting start), explained that Connecticut DOT had been repaving Main Street and the city’s crew had to dig up the freshly paved area to reach and fix the leaking water service at 279 Main Street. Day said the DOT expects to repave again at the end of the week, so the city requested immediate milling of the affected section so DOT can repave the same pass.
Chip Pope explained the city’s usual paving contractor (American Paving/American Asphalt under the city umbrella contract) had been asked for a price but had not yet provided a quote; procurement staff estimated the work would likely be less than $15,000 but said a final cost was unknown. The board voted to add the item to the agenda and authorized the contractor to perform the milling under the existing contract, with procurement to record the requisition when the price is received.
The board approved the emergency authorization unanimously and directed staff to submit the requisite procurement paperwork once the contractor’s quote is received.
