Chief: Security report shows 55 incidents; DOJ will audit municipal police biennially

Chief of Police Kyle Lamparter presented the security report covering July 15–August 19 and said the department recorded 55 incidents or calls for service during that period. He told the council the Department of Justice will audit police municipalities every two years and will request monthly statistics on use-of-force incidents and pursuits for those audits.
Lamparter also said the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy will conduct an on-site audit and inspection of the department. He raised two additional administrative items: a camera license renewal and an instance of a non-compliant sign posted on Highway 17 that the department noted during recent activity.
Council did not take formal action on the report at the meeting. The security report and upcoming audits will likely require staff follow-up to assemble requested statistics and to complete the Criminal Justice Academy inspection process.
