Campobello police warn about realistic BB guns; fire department reports busy month

Police Chief Chad McNeill presented the department’s monthly report at the March 9 council meeting, outlining recent incidents including motor vehicle collisions (six without injuries, three with injuries), a shots‑fired call, alarms, disturbances and numerous officer‑initiated checks and community contacts. Chief McNeill highlighted a safety concern: some BB guns are manufactured to look and feel nearly identical to duty handguns, and because they may lack the orange safety markings found on airsoft, they can be mistaken for real firearms and create danger for responding officers.
Fire Chief Brandon McNeill reported 29 calls within Campobello’s response area during February, including motor vehicle accidents, brush and structure fires, downed power lines and vehicle fires. The department also responded to 14 additional calls outside its primary service area, providing mutual aid to neighboring agencies on five of those responses.
Council members asked no follow‑up questions during the public safety reports. No formal policy changes or votes were taken on enforcement or equipment during the March 9 meeting.
