The Cheraw Town Council took several formal actions at its Sept. 10 meeting.
- William J. Reed Day: The council adopted Resolution 04-25-18 declaring Nov. 15, 2024 as William J. Reed Day to honor Reed's civic and community contributions; the resolution was presented and adopted following a reading of Reed's history.
- Jersey Street storm drainage: The council authorized the town manager to award a contract to Alliance Consulting Engineers to design storm-drainage improvements on Jersey Street. Staff said the design phase is expected to take about four months and construction roughly four weeks.
- Caston Park redevelopment: The council approved awarding a redevelopment contract to Contractor Services of Kershaw LLC for the Caston Park project. The finance committee recommended the award with a funding mix that included unobligated ARP funds, a South Carolina Department of Commerce grant, general-fund money and hospitality tax receipts. A proposed amendment to negotiate fewer pickleball courts was offered during discussion but the original motion passed 6–1.
- Sewer tap: The council approved a sewer tap for 4 Chapman Street after the utility director recommended approval based on sewer availability.
All motions described above were approved during the meeting; recorded tallies for the Caston Park award were reported as 6–1 in favor. For items where the transcript did not record a named mover or seconder, minutes list the action but the meeting transcript noted motion, second and a vote.
