Decatur officials told the board Dec. 10 they received equipment from a State Forestry grant and are awaiting a contract on a larger grant for air packs.
The chief said the department received two leaf blowers, five sets of wildland gear, two hard hats and two drip torches through a State Forestry grant. He also said the department has submitted an air‑pack grant application and that previous attempts had been turned down twice but the current submission is pending; he estimated the air‑pack request at about $200,000.
A board member asked whether the city should send a thank‑you note for the grant; staff said the paperwork and eventual contract will be handled through the usual grant process and that project funds will come from room tax money when applicable.
The board did not take formal action on the grant at the meeting; staff said they expect a contract and will bring related paperwork back to the board once it arrives.
