Mayor Irwin said the policy can be adopted with Decatur’s logo and title but will read the same as the county policy. The mayor said staff will contact the courthouse and affected homeowners to ease transitions if an address change becomes necessary.
Officials said adopting the county policy will apply the same address rules to future subdivisions and will reduce confusion for emergency dispatch. The board’s discussion noted that only a few properties inside the town might be affected; most concerns are in the county.
The motion to adopt the policy was made, seconded and carried with Aldermen Meadows, Myers, Pedon, Roland and Ward recorded as voting in favor. Staff will proceed with implementing the policy and contact residents who might see address changes.
The board did not specify a firm implementation date at the meeting; officials said they would manage individual address changes case by case and notify homeowners in advance.
