The Clinton City Council approved a slate of community assistance grants recommended by the committee, allocating funds to local nonprofits and school groups from the budgeted community assistance pool.
Miss Walsh summarized the committee's recommended distributions, which included: East Side Elementary ($500); Lawrence County Safe Home ($1,500); District 56 Science Olympiad ($5,000); Lawrence County Keep Lawrence County Beautiful ($1,000); Piedmont Agency on Aging (Meals on Wheels, Clinton) ($500); The Zone ($1,500); Open Door ($2,500); Lawrence County Cancer Association ($1,000); National Veterans Agriculture Association ($1,000); Good Shepherd ($1,000); GO Center ($1,200); and Clinton Canopy ($1,000). The packet stated a $20,000 allocation and the committee reported a working total of roughly $19,200.
After initial approval, Miss Williams notified council the distributed list in the packet omitted two intended recipients: Lawrence County Community Theater ($500) and YMCA ($1,000 for a Christmas toy drive). Council moved and approved the amended list by voice vote.
Council asked that recipients be asked to return to report on how the funds were used so citizens can see the impact of the awards.
