The commission discussed personal protective equipment (turnout gear) replacement cycles. Staff said many members’ gear traces to a 2003 grant and is now beyond recommended NFPA life cycles; replacements cost roughly $3,000–$4,000 per full turnout set and the department has used recurring county checks (about $15,000 in recent years) to help outfit new and returning members.
No formal action was taken; staff said they will continue training and outreach plans and replace PPE as funding allows.
