Campobello adopts C‑3 zoning amendment to allow recreational and sports uses downtown

The Campobello Town Council on May 11 adopted Ordinance 2026.1, amending the town’s C‑3 Central Business District rules to add recreational and sports‑related uses to the list of permitted downtown activities.
Mayor Aaron Ash explained the amendment would permit uses such as indoor batting cages, community recreation facilities, parks and bicycle‑oriented businesses in restored downtown buildings, supporting potential trail‑related economic activity. Council cited Planning & Zoning’s work preparing the amendment as part of proactive planning for future growth opportunities.
Council Member Joe McDowell moved approval of the ordinance’s second reading; Council Member Reitha Stevenson seconded and the motion carried unanimously. The amendment is intended to allow compatible recreational uses that support downtown revitalization and future trail economies.
The council said the change follows Planning & Zoning recommendations and positions the town to consider adaptive reuse of downtown properties for recreation and related supportive businesses.
