Cape May County elects Leonard C. Desiderio director and Andrew Bulakowski vice‑director at reorganization meeting

The Cape May County Board of Commissioners met for its annual reorganization and regular meeting on Jan. 6, 2026, in the Commissioners Meeting Room at the William E. Sturm Administration Building in Cape May Court House.
At the start of the session Director Leonard C. Desiderio presided, and the board unanimously elected Commissioner Leonard C. Desiderio director and Commissioner Andrew Bulakowski vice‑director. Congressman Jefferson VanDrew administered the oath to Commissioner Barr; Michael J. Donohue, Esq., administered the oath to Commissioner Bulakowski. The ceremony included the Presentation of Colors by the Cape May County Sheriff’s Color Guard and the National Anthem sung by Miss Ocean City, Taylor Mulford.
Commissioner Barr thanked family members, supporters and county staff and acknowledged absent colleague Dan Lockwood. Commissioner Bulakowski thanked state and federal officials — including Congressman VanDrew, Senator Testa and Assemblymen Antwan McClellan and Simonsen — and said he was “honored and humbled” to be sworn in again. Commissioner Collette and Commissioner Morey offered congratulatory remarks and reflected on working collaboratively in 2026.
Director Desiderio read the statutory notice required under the Open Public Meetings Act, stating, “This is a notice read pursuant to the requirements of the ‘Open Public Meetings Act.’” He also highlighted department statistics from 2025 and said the board looks forward to building on last year’s progress during a year that marks the nation’s 250th anniversary.
The board approved all minutes and procedural motions on roll call and opened the consent agenda for routine resolutions and administrative appointments.
The board adjourned at 5:04 p.m.
