Board approves A&E contract so district can meet state grant deadlines for McCall vestibule, A-wing remediation

"If you didn't approve that, we'd be kind of in a pickle," a staff member said, noting that only one firm submitted during the solicitation. Staff emphasized that approving the A&E contract does not commit the district to construction beyond the two current projects; the contract allows the district to assign future projects to the firm if funding becomes available and both parties agree.
Board members asked whether local contractors will be used for construction; staff said the A&E firm is open to working with local subcontractors during the bid/construction phase. The board also heard operational details: the A-wing mold remediation will include disinfecting classrooms and installing room-level (Bard) HVAC units so rooms can be reopened, and staff described plans to adjust NETC/CTE scheduling in fall to reduce bus trips.
After discussion, a board member moved, seconded and the board approved the A&E services contract so design for both projects can proceed immediately and the district can use the state funds before the June 30 deadlines.
Why this matters: the decision allows the district to preserve state grant dollars and start repairs affecting classroom safety and instructional space; it also raises routine procurement and vendor-selection questions the board flagged for future attention.
