Mamaroneck Town Board approves firefighter hire, certifies fire claims, hires PR firm and OKs budget changes

The Town Board of the Town of Mamaroneck approved a package of administrative actions at its March 5, 2025 work session in Conference Room A.
The board certified fire-department claims totaling $18,144.52, including a $10,980 invoice for a turnout-gear dryer, and voted to submit those claims for payment. "For this invoice, we're looking at a total of $18,144.52," the presenting board member said while recommending approval of the certified claims. The roll call recorded ayes for certification.
The board also approved the appointment of Michael Henry as a full-time, probationary firefighter at an annual salary of $73,102, effective March 24, 2025. Meredith, a staff member presenting the request, said Henry most recently served as a firefighter and EMT for the LaGrange Fire District since March 2022 and would not require additional academy training. A motion to appoint Henry carried on a roll-call vote.
On contracting and communications, the board approved an agreement with BB Strategies LLC for public-relations services, with the fee stated as $7,500 per month and a contract provision allowing either party to terminate at will. "The fee is $7,500 a month," a board speaker noted during discussion before the board voted to approve the contract as amended.
The board rejected bids submitted under solicitation TA25-04 for landscape maintenance of the town senior center and the Hammocks fields and pool complex, following staff guidance that the work should instead be solicited via proposals to preserve flexibility and control costs. The board directed staff to solicit proposals.
Controller Tracy presented capital budget amendments for eight completed projects with approximately $524,000 in savings, most of which will be returned to debt service per bond rules. Tracy also requested transferring $40,000 saved from two completed drainage projects to the primary drainage program to support design of five drainage projects slated for 2025; the board authorized the controller to make the amendments as presented.
