Ramsey adds third administrative lieutenant to police code to address growing administrative workload

The Borough of Ramsey on Nov. 24 adopted Ordinance 26‑2025, which amends Chapter 2 of the borough code to authorize a third lieutenant in the Ramsey Police Department designated as an administrative lieutenant.
The ordinance was explained during the final reading as a response to increased administrative demands on the department. The administrative lieutenant would supervise civilian staff, the communications/dispatch center and the officer in charge of the traffic bureau, and assist the captain with public records and discovery obligations.
Council members said the amendment is intended to help the department manage growing non‑patrol administrative tasks and maintain service quality. The mayor opened a public hearing on the ordinance; there were no public comments. The council adopted the ordinance by roll call vote.
The ordinance will be incorporated into the borough code and the borough indicated it will follow internal staffing and budget processes to fill and fund the position as required under municipal personnel and budget rules.
