Tower council roundup: hire for ambulance service, municipal forest plan, fire truck repairs, trail routing and small community funding approved

At its Aug. 11 meeting, the City of Tower Council approved several departmental and community items in a single series of unanimous votes.
Councilor Bob Anderson moved to hire Kathryn Hill as an Emergency Medical Responder for the Tower Area Ambulance Service; Councilor John Van DeVoort seconded and the motion passed unanimously, adding a part-time EMS responder to local emergency services. Councilor Joe Morin moved to approve PT1 fire truck repairs at Custom Fire in Wisconsin; Councilor Anderson seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
On community and planning matters, Morin moved to approve the Tower Municipal Forest Plan; Councilor Kevin Norby seconded and the motion passed unanimously, formally adopting the draft plan. The council also approved up to $200 in advertising funding for the Gundersen Endowment Fund Committee’s grant application rollout (motion by Councilor Morin, second by Councilor Anderson), and selected Option A (north side of the gravel pit) as the temporary routing for the Mesabi and Prospector Trail improvement project until Option C can be built (motion by Councilor Norby, second by Councilor Morin); both motions passed unanimously.
Clerk/Treasurer Michael Schultz provided an informational update on an upcoming IRRR grant submission; council took no action on that item. The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn at 7:04 PM.
