Ramsey swears in probationary officers and approves new sergeant appointments

The Borough of Ramsey’s Mayor and Council on Jan. 6 announced appointments and performed a swearing-in ceremony for new Ramsey Police Department personnel.

Christopher Finn and Brian Paul were appointed as sergeants, and probationary appointments were approved for James Varga and Chang Squavanus, council members said during the meeting. Two probationary officers took the oath of office; the council recorded their congratulations and noted the officers’ start date as Jan. 15.

A police department representative who identified themselves in the transcript as the chief praised the new recruits’ performance during the hiring process. “They were professional and they were diligent and they stood out right from the beginning,” the chief said, noting one recruit’s prior patrol and detective experience in Georgia and another’s local roots, collegiate athletics and leadership in wrestling.

The chief told the council the department looks to the academy to develop those abilities and thanked Mayor Dylan, the public-safety committee and the town council for their support during the hiring process.

The swearing-in was performed during the meeting and no public comments were recorded while the ceremony took place. The newly sworn probationary officers and the appointed sergeants were confirmed by the council vote recorded earlier in the meeting. The recruits are scheduled to begin service on Jan. 15, according to remarks at the meeting.
