County staff and lobbyist update committee on Sacramento activity; committee forwards four legislative positions to full Board

Jael Dentis of Full Moon Strategies briefed the Personnel Administration and Legislation Committee on the state legislative calendar and Alameda County’s priorities on April 6.
Dentis said the legislature reconvened and that a large number of measures face deadlines this month. She noted Alameda County’s sponsored bill, "SB 1400," is scheduled for a Senate Local Government Committee hearing on April 15 and that the May revise is scheduled for May 14. "We are in full coordination with the county staff right now," Dentis said, and she offered to share hearing notes with county staff after the subcommittee hearings.
Following the update, Chair (S1) presented four requested county positions for committee concurrence: (1) a social services request for a one-time $8,300,000 general fund allocation for a CNA workforce initiative; (2) an opposed position requested by Child Support Services for a measure referenced as "B 1 95" to maintain an enforcement tool; (3) support for AB 1643 to amend family code sections relating to child support; and (4) support for SB 1264 regarding notice of death for child support obligors. Committee members agreed and S4 moved to forward items 1–4 to the full Board; Chair seconded and the motions passed unanimously.
Dentis and county staff will continue to monitor hearings and share materials; the committee did not take additional votes on SB 1400 during the meeting. There were no public comments on the state legislative update.
