The Alameda County Personnel Administration and Legislation Committee unanimously voted on April 6 to forward a social services agency request for $8,300,000 in one-time general funds to the full Board to support a certified nursing assistant (CNA) workforce initiative.
Chair (speaker S1) introduced the request, saying the funding would help provide navigation services through the county workforce board to meet new HR 1-related workforce requirements. A committee member (speaker S4) asked John Assini of CJ Lake about the likelihood of successfully securing additional or related federal funding; Assini replied that it is early in the appropriations process and that outcomes will depend on continuing resolutions, midterm election results and final appropriations timing.
"We're still pretty early in the appropriations phase," Assini said, adding that the ultimate fate of WIOA and other domestic programs will depend on the balance of power after the midterm elections. Committee members signaled support for the request: S4 moved to advance the request to the full Board; Chair seconded. Supervisors present voted "Aye" and the motion passed.
The committee did not specify implementation details, eligibility criteria or a funding timeline in the meeting; those are matters for the full Board and county staff. There were no public comments on this agenda item during the meeting.
