The Jonesville City Council on Oct. 15 accepted a $13,000 offer from Danny and Janie Peiffer to purchase city-owned vacant residential property at 148 Jermaine Street and authorized city staff to complete the sale.
Manager Gray opened a public hearing and summarized two written offers for the property: an $11,000 bid from Red Beard Properties (associated with Councilman Chris Grider) and a $13,000 bid from Danny and Janie Peiffer. No members of the public spoke during the hearing, which opened at 6:45 p.m. and closed at 6:48 p.m.
Because of his business affiliation with Red Beard Properties, Councilman Chris Grider excused himself from discussion of the sale. On a motion by Councilmember Dean Adair II, supported by Brenda Guyse, the council voted to accept the Peiffers’ $13,000 offer and to accept the Red Beard Properties offer of $11,000 as a backup if the primary sale failed to close. The motion authorized the City Manager and Clerk to execute any necessary documents to complete the sale.
Roll call on the motion recorded ayes from Dean Adair II, Brenda Guyse, George Humphries Jr., Annette Sands and Mayor Pro-Tem Andy Penrose; Chris Grider was recorded as abstaining. Gerry Arno was absent. The motion carried.
The council’s action transfers authority to city staff to finalize closing documents; the sale remains subject to completion of closing requirements and the potential backup offer only becomes operative if the primary transaction fails to close.
The meeting adjourned at 7:34 p.m.
