Jimmy Herrera, a representative of Primo Brands, presented a $10,000 donation to the Town of McBee on June 3, the council heard, calling it "the first installment of a committed $30,000 donation." Councilman James Linton said the playground will be built on the same property as a soon-to-arrive multipurpose building and that the town is soliciting donations from businesses and individuals to help match a $126,000 grant.
The multipurpose building, Linton said, "should be delivered some time this month," and will take about three to four months to be assembled and outfitted. He said the facility will support recreation programming including volleyball, basketball and a full exercise gym.
Councilman Robbie Liles said the town is also partnering with Duke and United Way on a walking trail; he noted a presentation at the Recreational Complex scheduled for June 5, 2025, at 3:30 p.m. Liles added that "Duke and Primo Brands have already donated $34,000 to the children's playground," an amount council leaders said supports fundraising momentum toward the grant match.
Town Clerk Kylee Watts told the council that Fourth of July festivities are planned for July 5, 2025, at 6:30 p.m., and that volunteers are needed to support events tied to the new recreation facilities and playground fundraising.
The council did not take a formal vote on project authorizations during the meeting; Linton said fundraising and coordination with grant requirements are ongoing. The presentation of the Primo Brands gift and the multipronged fundraising appeal mark the next steps in the town's effort to secure matching funds and complete the recreation projects.
