Ridgefield superintendent: QSAC building walkthrough passed; security audit prompts vestibule at Slocum Skewes

Superintendent Dr. Anemone told the Ridgefield Board of Education on Jan. 16 that the district’s QSAC (Quality Single Accountability Continuum) triannual review will be carried out in three steps — a paper audit, a building walkthrough and a curriculum audit — and that the building walkthrough conducted Jan. 10, 2025, required no adjustments.

"The QSAC building walk through was a success," Dr. Anemone said, noting the curriculum audit is scheduled for late March 2025. He reported that Stonegate Associates, the district's security consultants, completed a security audit and will meet with Central Office later in the month to discuss recommendations.

As one near-term security change, Dr. Anemone said Slocum Skewes School will receive a vestibule at its front entrance similar to the system installed at Bergen Boulevard School to strengthen building security. He described the vestibule installation as part of ongoing efforts to improve facility safety.

The superintendent also referenced a pending state proposal — announced by Governor Murphy — that would ban student cell phones in classrooms, but said the district will await formal guidance from the state before changing local policy.

Board members acknowledged the QSAC results and the planned security work and did not object to moving forward with the audits and facility improvements. The district will host the curriculum audit later in March and Central Office will review Stonegate's recommendations when delivered.

Next steps noted in the meeting record include the security consultant meeting with Central Office and continuing the QSAC curriculum audit process.
