Ridgefield board ratifies teachers aide contract, approves sweeping consent agenda

The Ridgefield Board of Education ratified a tentative Memorandum of Agreement with the Ridgefield Teachers Aide Association on Jan. 16 and approved a wide-ranging consent agenda that included minutes, bills, payroll, tuition contracts, personnel actions and several service agreements.
The board voted to ratify the teachers aide agreement covering July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2028. The motion to ratify was made by Claudia Narvaez and seconded by Lori Hoffman; the motion carried with Board Member Andrew Grippa recorded as abstaining and the remaining members voting yea. The board authorized the president to execute the collective negotiations agreement incorporating the memorandum’s terms.
Other routine items approved under a single roll-call motion included the December 19, 2024 work-session and Jan. 2, 2025 reorganization minutes; the January 2025 bill lists; payroll for December 2024; cash and Board Secretary reports for November and December 2024; budget transfers totaling $38,211.36; and approvals of tuition contracts for magnet and nonresident students, and various out-of-district and homebound instructional agreements.
Personnel actions approved on the consent agenda included rescinding and reissuing appointments, accepting separations, approving leaves of absence, approving internships for university students in occupational therapy and speech-language pathology, and appointing a nurse for an ACDEC regional competition. The board also approved the 2025–2026 district calendar, a Summer Extended School Year calendar for 2025, and designated January as School Board Recognition Month.
The board used a standard consent process: motions to approve the grouped items were repeatedly moved by Claudia Narvaez and seconded by Lori/Lorl Hoffman and carried by roll call unless otherwise noted. The meeting record shows routine procedural votes carried and that one substantive bargaining ratification drew an abstention from Andrew Grippa.
