Superintendent Dr. Anemone told the Board there is considerable student interest in joining the regional Girls North Jersey Flag Football League for spring play; the district will explore grant funding opportunities, including past grants from the New York Jets, to cover uniforms, equipment and transportation. He also reported that the district’s Anti‑Bullying Bill of Rights self‑assessment scores (out of 78) were: Shaler Academy 76; RMHS 73; Bergen Boulevard 76; Slocum Skewes 76. He said the scores will be filed with Trenton and published on the district website after verification and that the district will undergo QSAC auditing this year.
Dr. DePass presented the remainder of the district’s 2024 New Jersey Student Learning Assessment report previously introduced in August. Education Committee Chair Claudia Narvaez described RMHS initiatives, including a ‘Principal‑Lunch Lounge’ (first Monday of each month) where students may meet the principal during lunch, and a CommonApp completion incentive for seniors.
The Board approved a contract with Care Plus Bergen, Inc., d/b/a Bergen New Bridge Medical Center, for urine screening services under the Teen T.H.R.I.V.E. substance‑abuse program (the resolution cites N.J.S.A.18A:40A‑10 et seq. as statutory authority for district substance‑abuse programs). The Board also approved vision‑screening dates submitted by The Lions Club of District 16‑N for each school and monthly visits from Bright & Beautiful Therapy Dogs, Inc., for the Learning Center program.
Public commenters and board members discussed meeting‑format access (questions about virtual or hybrid options) and district staff said state law currently requires in‑person presence for board members except for the COVID‑era exception. No board votes amended meeting format at this meeting.
